Compendium of Curiosities Vol 3 Challenge #9~CC3C #9~Paris Pair

Back this Friday with the latest CC3 Challenge!

We are up to Challenge #9, it is odd numbered so our fabulous sponsor is Inspiration Emporium with a fabulous $50 shopping spree to a lucky winner! As always there is another fabulous prize package awarded by  the fabulous Curiosity Crew provided by our source of Inspiration, Tim Holtz and Mario Rossi! Thanks so much as always, everyone in this Challenge project is amazing!

This challenge takes up the clever Stamps and Framelits on page 63 of the Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. Wonderful new toy for the stash! I have never used this amazing pair of tools before and I must say..... I never want to go back! It is soooooooo fun! Sooo many possibilities to further enjoy this journey:)

Here we go, I used the French Flight set.

Please feel free to click each image to get a larger view:)

I stamped the Eiffel Tower, Fleur De Lis with pigment ink then embossed them with Ranger Super Fine Powder in clear. The butterflies were stamped with Distress Embossing Ink and also embossed with Ranger Super Fine.

The backgrounds were layered with Distress Paints and Inks. Over the butterflies I swiped the ink pad across the images, sprayed with water and wiped it away gently. Then used my fingers too much and they are still pretty inky:)

I cut out a photo from my Holtz paper stash and roughed it up a bit!

I am sure this pair had some fond memories to make such a happy photo!

All in all such a fun prompt and great tools to play with! A happy way to bring on this Labor Day Weekend! Be safe and enjoy your family this weekend!

All the best,
~kim

Sunday August 17~SSS Monday Scratched Up

Good Sunday to you!

Just a quick tag I made today, was very hot and did not really want to do much at all! Playtime is always a fun diversion!

I made this with the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge in mind. The prompt this week was Scratched Up. We were left free to interpret what that meant, be it grunged, crumpled, scratched, whatever you could come up with.

I crumpled and Distress Inked a manila tag. Then I added some digital stamps made by tape transfer on top of rubber ones for more depth and layers. I inked the edges and added some fabric flowers I die cut from Tim's Tattered Florals die.

The digital stamps came from an amazing free resource put up by Pamela at FreeVintageDigiStamps Check out the site and her wonderful collection.

I love this image of an elegant lady, it is a perfume ad. She is also a tape transfer image.

This gentleman certainly has a different perspective with his umbrella hat! This image is a tape transfer made from cheap glossy photo paper printed on my inkjet printer then covered with clear packing tape. I soaked it in tap water to loosen up the paper back. Then rubbed away the paper as it softened.

I edged the entire tag in Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure you stop by FreeVintageDigiStamps.

~Saturday August 16~Sunday Stampers 320~Discoveries Tag~SSS: Summer

Happy Saturday!

Yay, the weekend arrived! tooo fast I think after all!

I wanted to make a project for Hels Sheridan's Sunday Stampers Challenge, the theme this week, Natural Colours and Elements. Also while I was at it, the end result fits the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Summer. I played for a bit today and made some backgrounds on various tags I cut up from manila folders. The absolute most fun in making this tag project is I got to play with new toys!

I finally acquired an acrylic block big enough to use a magical bird from the Inkadinkado Morphic Birds set. I have always wanted to use this one and now I am so happy I did :) Also I got a couple of new (to me) Holtz dies, Tattered Flower Garland and Frameworks Lattice. Just starting with them and I am by no means done, so exciting!!

Anyways here is my naturally Summer tag, I hope my interpretation is ok :)

I Distress Inked the background with Wild Honey and Vintage Photo inks. Then, I used Distress Embossing Ink to stamp my bird and heat embossed with Ranger Super Fine Detail Embossing Powder in clear.

I die cut the lattice and petals from book pages from The Odyssey. (It was a falling apart copy rescued from the certain doom it was sentenced to by one High School Lit Teacher) The petals and leaves were also inked with various Distress Inks.

I included these two photos as well. On one of my previous projects I found I reallllllly liked the see them backlit. The colors just POP and glow. I love how the paper flowers turned translucent. I think the embossing shines the best this way I believe :)

Thanks so much for reading along about my small Discoveries today!

Please make the time to check out the fabulous blogs, they are amazing and so loaded with great inspiration!

Have a lovely day,
~kim

Tim Holtz~12 Tags of 2014 & Mixed Media Mojo ~ August 15

Happy Friday!

Yay! The weekend is almost here:)

It has been a good few days of creative play. Using inspiration from the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014, Follow Your Muse August tag and Mixed Media Mojo August Challenge: Mixed Media Tag, generated lots of fun playtime! Come play along, there is still lots of time!

Feel free to click each image for a larger view :)

I followed Tim's technique, starting with a plain manila tag that I cut from a manila folder. I like to economize and upcycle as I can so I can buy the good stuff like paints:)  I love the filmstrip Washi tape so I added 2 strips. Then I added the cityscape stamp and then stamped it again above the first impression without re-inking with Jet Black Archival. The did the same with the wonderful balloon stamp.

After stamping I added some texture paste using the Harlequin stencil, love that one too! I added stars too, stars and diamonds, must haves!

Then the painty part. I sprayed water all over the surface of the tag. Then made some Distress Stain puddles on my craft mat. I swiped the tag through them. Once that part was dry I applied more color directly onto the tag. I really like how whispy the stains came out. I stamped the sentiment with Distress Embossing Ink and heat embossed it in black, I love shiny things!

I added these photos of the tag backlit. I am sooo in love with the glow it has. It really shows off the awesome qualities and layers of Distress Stains. To me it adds so much to the dreamy nature of the imagery.

I hope you like the tag, if you have the time, I appreciate all comments<3

August 14, 2014~Compendium of Curiosities V. 3 Challenge 8~Faded Layers CC3C & SSS WiW

Hey There,

Happy Hot Summer Day :) If is not hot where you are, Happy Cool Day!

Today I have the next challenge on the list from the Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3, it is Challenge 8 already(!) using the Faded Layers Technique. Grab your copy of the inspiring book to play along, you can join up anytime at our wonderful Linda Ledbetter's blog at Studio L3 .

This even numbered challenge is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique along with a generous prize awarded to randomly drawn participant. Check out the Boutique it is amazing, HERE! As well, Linda's Curiosity Crew will pick a winner for the Crew's Choice package provided by Tim Holtz and Mario Rossi! So wonderful, thanks so much to everyone for all the inspiration and cool prizes.

My project today came together more simply than ones before, I really am in awe of the results you can get using the technique. So subtle and beautiful.

My print has a more moody feeling and color to it. I did not start off in any particular direction, I was just playing and it is what arrived. I hope you like it:)

Please click each photo for a larger image:)

I still absolutely adore the Umbrella Man stamp from Tim Holtz. It is a definite keeper! I am nowhere near done playing with that image!

Umbrella Man pairs nicely with The Harlequin stencil as well.

For the sentiment I used a quotation reprinted in a collection by Neil Gaiman called "Fragile Things". Originally it was part of 12 very short stories he wrote to accompany the album, "Strange Little Girls" by Tori Amos. It is often quoted, "Whenever it rains you will think of her."

Thanks for reading and viewing. This is submitted to the Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3, Challenge 8, Faded Layers, sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I am also submitting this project to the once a month challenge at Simon Says Stamp Work it Wednesday: BLUE. I love this once a month challenge, great place to share a favorite project:)

~Tag Play~Sunday Stamper: Bits & Pieces Hels Sheridan

Hi There!

Hope you are enjoying your August Day! July left too fast...amazing!

Bit of tag play to share today! I have been a follower of Hels Sheridan's blog, HERE, long before I decided to actually get inky crafty. She has great tutorials and brilliantly lovely projects, always a great inspiration. Super funny to read, too. Make sure you pop over to take a look.  Each Sunday she posts a fun prompt to play with. I finally got organized and time managed enough to join up!

Here is my play tag, enjoy :)

I used a tag I made awhile ago with Distress Paints and marbling. I added some Distress Ink with stencils on top. I practiced my stamping and embossing with the Tim Holtz stamps.

I absolutely LOVE the heart stamp. I bought that set mainly for that particular stamp even though they are all really cool. I made the heart red with some Dylusions Red Spray Ink and a waterbrush.  I needed polkadots, truly really needed them and tragically(!) I have no polkadot stamp. Next best thing a bit of stashed ribbon :)

Another of my favorite things are flowers made from paper. I made these a bit ago as well. They were sprayed with Dylusions Purple Spray Ink and again with water to lighten up the centers.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you like my project, all comments are greatly appreciated :)
