October 31~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 31~Happy Halloween!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Looks like we made it!! Congratulations EVERYONE! Wicked Bloggers, Horrifying Hoppers and Sinister Lurkers, thank you ALL for a fabulous month!

Welcome to Day 31 of 31 Days of Halloween! The Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween Challenge is to create a daily project using a stamp, rubber or digi, and run from there. Remember to pop over HERE to Terra's blog to see the daily Scavenger Hunt prizes donated by our awesome sponsors and find the daily clue. You can also see all the rules there, too.

For your reference I have the Wicked Blogger Hop list on the right sidebar:) Love Mr. Neon Skele! I plan on keeping the hop list for awhile, all of the blogs are awesome and I will continue to Hop and say Hi! And continue to finds tons of inspiration from all of you!

Today in addition to being Halloween, it is Friday, specifically Smeared Ink Friday! So obviously today I had to use my favorite Grumpies digital stamp from Smeared Ink.

The Grumpies decided to go trick or treating in costume as their favorite treat. Really they just want to blend in.....

This canvas combines lots of my favorite techniques, stamping on tissue, mixed media substrate and markers and Distress Inks and Paint. Sadly some Tootise Rolls and M&Ms were sacrificed in the production of this canvas.

Party on just don't come home with a lampshade on your head!

I had to use this photo, I love the moody shadows, really makes it look like clouds, this creepy night:)

Be well and I hope you visit sometimes and say Hi!

Happy Halloween! Watch out for the beings dressed up as M&Ms they just might be part of the Grumpie Squad!

October 30~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 30~Calavera

eeeekkk Thursday!

zoooommmm and here we are at THURSDAY!

Welcome to Day 30 of 31 Days of Halloween! Neon Skele!

Another Day of the Dead themed image today. Today's focal point is a stencil by The Crafters Workshop. Love this Calavera, Sugar Skull.

Please click the pictures to enlarge:)

The manila tag started as just a play with Dylusions sprays. I used lots of yellow and red. Then I found the stencil and it was a must have:)

I used my texture paste through the stencil and let is dry overnight. I chose to only use a bit over half the stencil, I liked the partial image.

Once dry, I played with more sprays on it. The base color kinda pulls up into the paste, it does not stay pure white. It was not coming out anything too special, then I tried a bottle of Lindsay's Stamp Gang Starburst spray, Sweet Violet Purple Teal. I had used it before and it was always a bright nice purple. I sprayed and let it pool and drip. As it dried it sorta separated and left the blue sparkle around all the edges of the paste. Once I put it in bright light, I loved the sparkly sheen it left.

The Spooktacular sentiment stamp is Unity. The filigree is Hampton Arts.

Happy Halloween Eve!

October 29~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 29~Payaso de Muerte

A Day of the Dead themed image today. I have been having fun practicing coloring, it is an awesome change of pace. I used a digital stamp by Rick St. Dennis, Payaso de Muerte that I was fortunate to win at the 31 DOH Scavenger Hunt.

Please click the pictures to enlarge:)

I wanted to stay with the festive nature of the stamp, it feels like a carnival, hence El Carnaval. I kept it simple, coloring with a mix of Sharpies, Bic Mark It  and Distress Ink pens to get enough colors and be bright! I love color!

Happy Wednesday! Enjoy your day!

Thank you ever so much for all of your kind thoughts, feedback and visits!

October 28~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 28

Tuesday!

Welcome to Day 28 of 31 Days of Halloween! Neon Skele!

Today another canvas even though the substrate is not canvas! I used a digital stamp by Smeared Ink, Girl Broken and Bleeding. I LOVE this image.

Please click the pictures to enlarge:)

hmmm where to start.....as soon as I saw the image I really liked her. I like how you could see inside her, poor dear has been through so much! I wanted to make a background to be visible through her.

I used my own photo as part of the collage, I added the heart and skull paper that I found at The Coffee Shop Blog .

To color her, I had two choices, Sharpies or Distress Ink and a water brush. I chose the Distress Ink, I thought it would be softer and more forgiving. My range of Sharpies is not subtle enough. I printed her onto Strathmore Mixed Media Heavy paper it's a 90lb paper. The bottom layers are just regular bond paper. I printed them all here with an inkjet printer.

The alpha letters are by Hero. Haunted Halloween is by Unity.

Please let me know what you think of the coloring I'm very interested in learning the how-to's!

Thanks so much for all your wonderful time and kind words!

October 27~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 27

Happy Monday!

Our last Monday of the 2014 31 Days of Halloween!

Welcome to Day 27 of 31 Days of Halloween! Neon Skele!

Today a simple layered canvas. I love skulls, they are amazing to me and I never tire of them, so I hope you do not mind:)

Please click the pictures to enlarge:)

The skull and hat are from the Graphics Fairy. I love her site, I could spend hours looking at her clip art collection!

I used a set of the mini alphabet stamps for this sentiment. I edged each tag with Black Soot Distress Ink. I used the pop up foam dots on the sentiment and skull to get a bit of depth and real shadow.

The skull has numbers on it, it was taken from an old anatomy diagram.

I love to rotate the canvas so the light catches the shadows differently. Hopefully so you can see details better!

Happy Monday and have a super week! Though I do hope it slows down a bit....

I had some fun digital play that I wanted to post today. Kinda a fun family portrait.
This is a portrait of the elusive Misk. She originated from Smeared Ink. Ms Misk is very difficult to capture for any amount of time. This portrait managed to be captured during one of her mad phase changes.

Please click the image to see a larger picture:)

Let me know what you think of this portrait. She was colored and layered in Photoshop Elements.

And an altered playing card today as well:)

Happy Hopping! Enjoy your day!

Time is running away from me screaming and yelling! I have no idea where October has gone let alone this week! Wow! Does anyone else feel the same?!?? I know lots of you are having wicked home-side challenges and my heart goes out to you and I am sending hugs and best of best wishes for things to get better<3

Now to get colorfully curious!  I have a curious altered playing card today:) Again...I know but they are soooo fun! Anyone can create with them and the cards will tough through, all sorts of paint, inks, dyes and tapes. Such awesome troopers!

The basics:

  • Added Dry wall tape, I love this one with dots:)
  • Covered with gesso
  • Distress paint: it has a dauber top and I just dragged it right across.
  • Spray with water to get the paints to react and blend and get pretty:)
  • If you don't like how the paint looks, just wash it off and try again.
  • I hadddd to use the Steampunk Curious just cuz I adore him<3
  • I stamped the wings next to the skull to be weird. Onto tissue paper since the surface is bumpy.
  • Add some doodles and remnant rubs.

Have a fun day and hop on to see more and more awesome projects today!

October 23~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 23~Danza de la Muerte

Hi Happy Thursday!

Welcome to Day 23 of 31 Days of Halloween! For your reference I have the Wicked Blogger Hop list on the ride sidebar:)

Today's exploration comes from more banner play. This time I fell in love with a banner project made by Diana Trout and it was on her post and contest that I won the set of the ArtistCeller stencils, Danse Macabre. I used one stencil on a tag earlier in the month HERE

Click to see it bigger if you like:)

I made a long post....I hope you don't mind!
Warning TEXT and PICTURE heavy!

I made the banner using deli paper, the same paper they use in sandwich shops to wrap up your sandwich. It is sold in the restaurant supply shops. I found some here at Smart & Final, a box of 500 sheets for about $8. It is called dry wax paper.

I love how the light and shadows play here:)

I used Distress Paint right on my craft mat and sprayed with water. Then I pressed the deli wrap into the paint and pulled it slowly off. I made a lot of sheets, so fun to play.

Once dry I picked out the sheets I liked the best and tried the papercutting. The papercutting is just like cutting snowflakes! Fun!

Once done with cutting, I placed the dancing dead stencil where I wanted it and sponged on acrylic paint. I added more flowers using an Inkadinkado flower stamp dipped in Distress Paint. If you use paint on your stamps, make sure you wash them off as soon as you are done stamping:)

Now I wanted it to be more, lots more festive. I knew I wanted ribbon and flowers. I had ribbon that was easy. I don't have a flower stash and I really like using what I have on-hand. Besides, handmade is so much more fun.

There are lots of sources of how to make paper flowers. The easiest one is to cut up a bunch of flower shapes or even circles in whatever size you want. You can use any sort of paper too. Book pages are lots of fun.  Just cut up a bunch all basically the same size pieces. You can use a paper punch, freehand it, or use a flower die if you have a die cut machine.

I used my Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die and cheap tissue paper I had on-hand. I folded and re-folded the tissue till I had a lot of layers then placed it on the die and cut. Bit easier on the hands to do them this way.

I used the smallest flower in the set as I wanted the flowers to be close to a Marigold.

Take a stack of the cut "petals" and staple them in the middle. You can also use a brad if you like. Now starting with the top layer, gently pull it up and crunch it up, ruffle it. Proceed through each layer until they are all ruffled. It will be like a tight bud when you are done, so just ease them apart until you have the shape you like.

Along the way I found out the flowers that I had not pulled carefully off the cutter, (I dropped them all over the place) ruffled up much closer to a Marigold. The ones with all the layers aligned are still awesome but a totally different look!

I used the Dylusions spray to get the orange flowers since I did not have orange tissue. I like to spray outside on cardboard 'cuz I am a messy crafter and well the spray ink kinda goes all over.

Long winded, but I really love these flowers and wanted to share:)

Dance like no one cares!

Thanks for all your awesome visits and such wonderful inspiration to play and craft away!

~hugs~

Left of Center~LOC DT Call~October 2014

Hi!

If you are looking for my 31 DOH post, day 22 October 22, scroll down or click HERE

Welcome to my page! I am setting up this post in response to the Left of Center DT Call. I saw a mention of the call on Teresa's blog The Fat Cactus, while I was hopping to each of the Wicked Blogger's pages for the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween Challenge 2014.

I am a Wicked Blogger participant and this is the most fun I have ever had! It is a real burst of creative energy to create a new item each day and do all the things necessary to share on my blog. There is so much inspiration on all the blogs along the Hop and so many fun things to discover! I have a wicked long list of techniques I want to try and projects I want to make.

I have not played with any LOC Challenge's sad to say, I only found you recently>.< I love the varied styles of all artists I see on your current DT and wonderful participants.  My go-to style I feel is towards the dark, moody and grungy. Truly, I don't feel I have a set style, I like to play in mixed media.  I won't rule out any style or genre, it is too fun to try new things!

I currently provide 1-2 projects per month for the DT of Mixed Media Mojo and that commitment will not interfere with LOC. I work best with deadlines!

I would love to join this team because I love to create and play. I think my body of work fits very well with LOC and it looks like an awesome community to be a part of. I am not a seasoned pro at blogging or art, it is all an ongoing learning process!

Below is a small sampling of my favorite projects recently. Almost all of them have been created during October 2014, this has been a super fantastic creative time! I love the energy I feel within me and from all the other artists out there.

ooo so wordy! Onwards!

Some pictures from recent posts, October is very full of things I am proud to share!
The links below the picture should take you to the specific post.

October 22~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 22~Mixed Media Mojo DT

Hello!

Happy Wednesday!

Welcome to Day 22 of 31 Days of Halloween, Smeared and Smudged's wicked 31 day challenge! To find your way on the 31 Days Hop, you can follow the list there on the right sidebar under Mr. Neon Skele. Also make sure you visit Terra's blog for the rules and daily Scavenger Hunt clue and prize list.

This is also my DT post for Media Media Mojo, I invite everyone to play along with us in this challenge. The theme is fun, Fall/Halloween and the twist, use fabric. Many, many pieces of everyone's art could be entered, come see when you have a chance!

For today I made a fabric hanging. I wanted something I could hang up in the window or on my door. This is the play I made.

I have really loved seeing Sandy's banner pieces this month, that has been part of my inspiration to play with stamping on fabric. You can find her blog HERE to see what I mean.

I chose to use some white crinoline fabric I had on hand. I love the edge it has so I made it the bottom border.

I stamped all the black images with Archival black. The orange-yellow is Distress Paint. The brown fence,(I love this stamp!), is Distress Ink.

Once the stamping was done, I filled in the sky using Distress Ink and a water brush. Sponges show too much of an edge so I used a brush on the fabric, it is not as forgiving as paper.

One hint of caution, the Distress Ink is water based, so when it gets wet it runs. I believe Archival is permanent, at least as I went over it with the blue, it did not lift like the brown did.

The witch, ghosts, and bats stamps are Unity. The sentiment is Inkadinkado. The crow is Recollections-Michaels $1 bin:)  The fence and bottom border is Hampton Arts. Inks are Ranger.

I really like how the inking brings up the texture of the fabric. This is a play I would like to do more with.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful comments and visits! It means so much and makes my day!

October 21~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 21~Beware ATC

Tuesday! ....already!

Day 21 of 31 for the ongoing 31 Days of Halloween Challenge! Love it!!!

Please visit Terra's blog for the details of the challenge and the daily Scavenger Hunt clue for this fabulous Smeared and Smudged event. We have some awesome sponsors and you can see them at Terra's blog.

My brain is mushy today, so I opted for simple color and stamping. I had no brain stamp to make a mushy one, so I just went with a Haunted House and my trusty Distress Inks to make an ATC.

I don't know if I did the inking in the right order or not....I stamped all the images. Then decided I wanted a cobweb too. It kinda obliterated the Beware sentiment.  I stamped using Ranger Jet Black archival.

Then I applied the Distress Inks. I did the yellow first to make the interior glow and carried it up into the web. Then I used Wild Honey, my go to and only orange Distress Ink. Inked that corner downwards a bit. Then I inked the dark blue around the edges as you see. I use the round spongy dauber, spongy like my brain.

Then I decided it needed a black edge.....I dropped the inked dauber onto the blue corner. Thank goodness it was not on the orange:( Soooooooo I had a lot of black there. I kinda smooshed it inwards then took my wet washrag that I wipe down my craft mat with, and dabbed that corner. Kinda sorta maybe mhmmmsureeeee looks sorta ok.

Sorry for the ramble.
Hop on!

October 20~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 20~APCC Week 7 Lost Souls Madness

Monday!

Day 20 of 31 for the ongoing 31 Days of Halloween Challenge! Love it!!!

Wow this is winding down or revving up? What do you think??

Please visit Terra's blog for the details of the challenge and the daily Scavenger Hunt clue for this fabulous Smeared and Smudged event. WE have some awesome sponsors and you can see them at Terra's blog.

This is also my altered playing card for week 7 in Claudine's 26 week ongoing play along for altering an entire deck of playing cards. You can see this week's inspiration HERE and to join us go to this PAGE.

I made a pair of cards today. I added some creep I think or maybe it is just haunting, not really gruesome. The inspiration prompt was a nautical theme. My stash is small and very non-nautical, mostly grungy, darkness.

Really straightforward this time. The standard sized playing cards were covered in gesso awhile ago. The Madness card has some tape embedded to add texture.

I masked the plain gesso before inking with Distress Inks. Also did some stamping. Then I removed the tape mask and stamped the angsty lady and skull.

This one is fun. Take a piece of plastic, shrink plastic, plastic from a package, any thin one will do. I have a stash of the thin sheet that come with the cling stamps so that is what I used. Emboss it using a folder. Claudine used a bubble folder which is awesome for the underwater theme. I used the Tim Holtz bubble wrap one. I love the shadows you can see on the card from the embossed layer. The line above the card is a shadow, I cut the plastic flush to the card.

I stamped the lady 3 times only inking once.

Thanks so for all your awesome time and comments!

October 19~ 31 Days of Halloween Wicked Blogger Challenge Day 19

Hi Happy Sunday!

Welcome to Day 19 of 31 Days of Halloween! For your reference I have the Wicked Blogger Hop list on the ride sidebar:)

Wow time is flying, doesn't it seem like we just started this journey? Where have the days gone??

Today is a bit different well maybe not I dunno. I chose to incorporate my love of photography with the stamping into a collage. I really want to work at meshing the shiny photo with the textures around it.

Please let me know what you think, I really do appreciate all your feedback!
I have my piece, "Watchers" for you today.

As always, click to see better, bigger:)

Okay, the substrate is my texture of choice right now, I love cardboard:)  The right side is deli paper, the kind they wrap sandwiches in, that I painted with Distress Paints, then crumpled, then inked with Distress Inks. Then stamped on it with Ranger Archival.

The left side under the photo is another piece of paper printed and distress in pretty much the same manner.

The photograph. The dark underneath and against a tree trunk with the yellow flowers is my own image I photographed myself.  The orange leaf shadows is also my own image, just cropped down. Using Photoshop Elements, I added some free public domain images, the gorgeous raven and the wicked green cat eyes. I found them at PublicDomainPictures. I did some layering and masking quickly to make the collage since it was late in the day, time really ran away from me!

The stamps are Inkadinkado Nevermore and Hampton Arts. The black around the edges I used a watersoluble graphite pencil, Sketch & Wash by General's, I love it and it is made in the USA. It was $3.49 at Michaels in a 2-pack with a sharpener.

I think I have taken enough of your time! Thanks for reading this far down!

Hop on! and I love all of your comments!

~hugs~
