Summer Fun~ Mixed Media Mojo New Challenge~ Theme Summer Twist Monochrome

Happy Monday and Happy June 1st!

This sunny hot Monday morning (in my teeny part of the world) bring the start of a new challenge at Mixed Media Mojo. Our theme this month is Summer with the optional twist, Monochromatic! You have all month to link up your creation and have a fun play!

Here is my small canvas, please click each photo to make it a bit larger :)

This is happy Summer moments. Moments that pass by quickly but stay with you for a lifetime. Be it playing on the beach, flying a kite or blowing bubbles :)

This canvas is 5 inches by 7 inches. I had a play with the supplies I was provided with by the DecoArts Blogger Outreach program. I love the paints, Misters, stencils and lots of mixed media wonderfulness! I always use these willingly, they are a joy to create with!

I used some Andy Skinner stencils, Children and Serendipity, with modeling paste. The background colors I used the Misters in orange and white. I love these since they dry permanent.

While the Misters were wet I sprayed with some more water. Then added some of the white Mister. While it puddled and moved, I used a chopstick to swirl it. I love the way it dried! I adore the canvas texture. I added School Bus Yellow to the modeling paste for the kite.

The bottom, "Beach" I masked the top half and sprayed the letters with the Mister orange and Some Dylusions Yellow. The Dylusions is water reactive even when dry, so it tends to soak into anything as I learned. I used the texture sand paste for the breaking waves.

Happy June! Thanks for coming by and hope to see you soon at Mixed Media Mojo~

hugs,

Merry Monday and Happy News Part II!

HI!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend! The weekend just went way too fast!  I think every weekend needs to be a long weekend, what do you think?

A couple of weeks ago there was a Design Team Call for a UK based stamp company, Visible Image. I adore the fabulous line of amazingly detailed stamps. Over the Holidays I was fortunate enough to win two stamps and fell in love with them. So long story longer :) I applied and truly did not think I had a chance!

A couple of days ago I got the happy happy news I made it and I am so excited and honored! All new DT have a one month trial period, so I am hoping to do my best to succeed! I really appreciate all my bloggy friends support and encouragement on each of my projects, it means the world to me! Hugs!!

You probably recognize this from my May Inspiration piece for the Tic Tac Toe Mixed Media Mojo Challenge. It uses the Visible Image stamps, Leave Your Fears and Behind Every Mask
You can see more on this page of my blog HERE

And this is the amazing Visible Image DT:

Have a fabulous day and thanks so much for coming by!

Mid Month Inspiration~Tic Tac Toe Mixed Media Mojo

Happy Wednesday!

Wonderful you stopped by today. I have a mid-month reminder for your for the current challenge at Mixed Media Mojo. Our theme for May is Tic Tac Toe, the optional twist is fill the whole board!

Here is the game board just in case you need a reminder :)

For this canvas, I managed three in a row, two ways! I have Tape, Chipboard and Stamp. And across, Gesso, Stencil and Chipboard.

Please click each image to see them a bit bigger :)

The substrate is cardboard, coated with gesso. I layered it up with some texture paste applied through stencils, Tim Holtz Harlequin and some circles. Once dry I sprayed some Dylusions then spritzed with some water to make it run.

I made the flowers with layers of deli wrap paper that I had stamped and stenciled. I used my Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die to cut them.

To keep them bouncy like flowers are in the wind, I attached them with 18g wire. I looped it through the holes in the brown drywall tape.  The tape was colored and textured with textured paste and crackle medium. I added color on top using alcohol inks.

I had fun playing with circles. I used a Sharpie to draw a bunch of circles then cut them out. I had fun stamping all over them then painted with Distress Ink. I love bubbles and circles :)

Thanks for reading this far! I hope you have time to join us for a game of Tic Tac Toe this month! Link up your make HERE

Can't wait to see what you make!

Mixed Media Mojo~May 1st New Challenge~Tic Tac Toe

Happy May!

Today brings the start of a brand new challenge at Mixed Media Mojo! This should be a fun and challenging one, I think!

For your play we offer a Tic Tac Toe Board! You challenge is to make 3 in a row, the Twist is to do it all! I hope you visit the Mixed Media Mojo Challenge Blog to see what the DT has come up with, so many amazing projects!

Please click the photos to see each one bigger, thanks!

I made a canvas, it is 5 inches by 7 inches. I chose to go three in a row, with Glitter, Stencil and Alcohol Ink.

I used the Tim Holtz Rays and Dot Fade stencils on top of the alcohol ink background. The alcohol ink is from Sharpie markers. I scribbled on the gesso covered canvas and poured rubbing alcohol over the ink to make the streaks.

I used two stamps by Visible Image for the magnificent bird and sentiment. I am so happy and grateful to have won them from Visible Image during some Facebook giveaways :)

I used Ranger Super Fine in white to emboss the awesome bird, then applied Peacock Feathers Distress Ink for the blue. The glittery cascade I used Sticky Embossing Powder and foil.

So will you join us with three in a row or will you go for it and fill the whole board? can't wait to see what you do! Link up with us HERE. You can combine our challenge with up to 6 others, so have fun!

If you want to express your darker side, I have a new challenge blog just for you, come explore and try something new..I promise we don't bite :) Come see me at the Dream in Darkness Dark Challenge Blog. More of my darker works are at my dark twin blog, Tangled Black Rose

April 1~New Challenge Mixed Media Mojo~Recycle/Upcycle: Twist Flowers~ CC3C #25~Rhedd's

Welcome April!

April what a fun day for so many reasons! No jokes...well at least not yet....

Today starts a fun new Challenge at Mixed Media Mojo! The theme is Recycle/Upcycle with a twist, Flowers....make of it what you like, just have fun and please share with us, we love to see your creations!

And a big joyful WELCOME to all of our new DT members! Please hop over to leave them some comment love:)

Click HERE to join the Challenge:)

Here is my project to share for your inspiration(hopefully!)

It started this clothing life as a wonderful shirt with cherries....

Then was transformed to a Springy canvas! The above picture I used flash on and it is still a bit harsh. In person it is much softer. I was impatient and rushed my photos...then I made more in the soft morning window light...

The butterfly is a Unity stamp, my current favorite. I stamped it onto a book page in Jet Black Archival. I colored it using Distress Inks, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade and Barn Door progressively. Once done I used my water brush to further blend the colors. Then of course the paper rippled...but I like how it made the butterfly have movement..magic!

Distress Paint and my Tim Rays stencil for the sun shiney fun.

I die cut the trellis using my Tim Frameworks die. Wonderful tip, there is a Challenge featuring the use of these dies, HERE. It is the Compendium of Curiosities Vol 3, Challenge hosted by Linda. This one is sponsored by Inspiration Emporium with a super wonderful $50 shopping spree!

You can start to see it here, more of the background layered in with stencils, stamps and mini stamps.

Please click pictures to see any bigger if you like :)

And the flowers:)  I love paper flowers! I made these using my Tattered Florals die. I used magazine pages with various imagery. Some of them are pictures of flowers.  I used the brads to hold the layers together. They were too flat and bold....so I crunched them up.

Then I sprayed them with Distress Stain Spray and splattered them with Distress Paint. I love how the  spray stain and paint made them more translucent quality. It really toned down the bright magazine imagery!

I am also entering this in the wonderful challenge hosted by Linda, the Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3, Challenge #25. If you are not sure what this challenge is, it is to follow along with Tim's book of techniques. This fortnight's features the Frameworks dies. Each Challenge has some wonderful prizes. This one has a chance to win a $50 gift certificate from Inspiration Emporium, hope you will visit the super shop HERE.

Another wonderful place to share your Mixed Media/Altered Art is at Rhedd's Creative Spirit. It is always Anything Goes as long as it is not a card, ATC or scrap page. The DT's art is wonderful and all the makes shared are amazing, do hop over and visit! I am linking to the April Challenge.

Thank you for following along!  Sharing the fun with Mixed Media Mojo, our April theme is Recycle/Upcycle, twist, Flowers.

Happy April!

Mixed Media Mojo~ATC Challenge~DT Inspiration~"Thoughtful"

Happy Mid-Week!

Today I have a short inspiration post for you, thanks for dropping by!

We still have a few days left in March for our challenge at Mixed Media Mojo. The theme is ATCs, the twist make 2.

I made a single ATC that came together very quickly and simply. I like it when projects come along simply.

Over at Mixed Media Mojo I posted a step by step, I hope you will pop over and check it out. Let me know what you think, I adore comments:) it keeps me going for sure!

Here is my Springy ATC, "Thoughtful". So happy the weather is slowly turning to Spring! Wonderful time to bring on the sweet bird stamps.

Hope to see you play along at Mixed Media Mojo! Again, the theme is ATC with a twist of 2. You can interpret 2 as you will....

Design Team Call & New Challenge~Mixed Media Mojo~March 2015

Welcome to a new month!

Sure hoping this March leads to a creative and warmer Spring for everyone!

Ready to get away a bit and play this day? Sure hope so!

Click HERE to pop over to the link up page.

At Mixed Media Mojo we have lots of fun things in store for your this month. First up we are holding a Design Team Call until mid-month. If you love to get inky, painty and used all sorts of materials in a fun, creative way, why not apply to our call? We'd love to have you link up, just pick a project you are really proud of to share with us. There is a link up on this PAGE at Mixed Media Mojo. Hope to see you soon!

And now if the super fun part, a new challenge!

Now is your chance to play with making an ATC! The theme is Anything Goes, the twist is 2. YOu can interpret the set of 2 any way you wish!

In case you are not sure, an ATC is an Artist Trading Card. It is a fun way to trade art among friends or anyone. An ATC is never sold. If you want to make ones to sell, then call it an ACEO, or Art Card, Editions & Originals. Both measure 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. For our challenge you need to keep the base to size but you are allowed to have the embellies of the sides/tops.

Please click the images to see them bigger :)

For my 2, I went literally and made two ATCs. I love playing in this size!

For both ATCs, the base is covered with rows of washi tape. This is done the same way as the technique I learned from Claudine in the Altered Playing Card Challenge. You can visit Claudine to see her how-to, HERE and see my APCs HERE

I cut a second piece of manila folder and used a Sizzix mini mover heart die to cut the shape. The small heart trail is a thin metal die by Simon Says Stamp.

I inked the Holtz Harlequin embossing folder then placed the die cut card inside and embossed it. I used Dusty Concord Distress Ink. Once dry I used a Unity background stamp, Chicken Wire with Potted Soil Archival Ink, for the mesh design.

This one I used another of my favorote Holtz stamps. I cut it apart and clear embossed the three gentlemen. I used pop dots to get a bit more depth. I used alcohol ink on the star to give it color.

I really hope you like this pair and that it inspires you to try an ATC if you have not done so before!

Can't wait to see what you make this month. See you soon!

Butterfly Art Tag~Mid-Month Mixed Media Mojo Inspiration

Happy Mid-Week!

Hope you all had a spectacular weekend and lovely Valentine's Day!

I have a fun tag to share with you today as Inspiration for our challenge at Mixed Media Mojo. The theme is Red and the Twist is Wings! You still have lots of time to play, we do hope you will join us and share this with your friends!

Here we go!

Please click each image to see them bigger if you like!

I made a manila tag, cut from a file folder. I used Distress Paint on the background. I misted the tag with water and pulled it through the paint on my craft mat. I let it dry then pressed it into the paint again to pick up more color and more spots. Once the paint was dry, I sprayed Dylusions red ink on it to make more red.

The butterfly stamps are Unity and I stamped them with Archival Ink, Jet Black. I painted the butterfly cut out using Distress Ink and a waterbrush. The "#here&now stamp" is Heidi Swapp.

The flowers are Tim Holtz Tattered Florals. They are inked with Distress Ink, Vintage Photo and splattered with Distress Paint, Picket Fence.  The two square embellies are Tim Holtz stickers. I sanded them because they were too shiny and clean, they had to be "aged". The "Remember" stamp is JilliBean.

I made the coil tag holder from craft wire bent around a paint brush. The heart embellie above it I also made. I glued some gear findings onto a wood heart. then I covered the heart with aluminum foil. I pressed it down. I used some black acrylic paint to cover the whole heart. Once dry I used some gold Rub N Buff to bring up the shapes.

Thanks so much for visiting!

I really hope you have time to play and share with us at Mixed Media Mojo!

Have a great day!

New Mixed Media Mojo Challenge~Use Red, Twist Add Wings~February 2015

Happy Super Sunday!

Hope you are planning a bit of crafty fun today, maybe while watching the football game?
Whether or not you watch the sport, I am really glad you stopped by to see the newest challenge we have starting up at Mixed Media Mojo!

The February 2015 Challenge is to use Red and a special Twist, add wings! Not too hard this month but loads and loads of possibilities!

At Mixed Media Mojo, we have a new linky to add your art that started today.

I really am excited to share my project with you!

Please click the image to make it larger!

I made a canvas that is about 5 inches by 7 inches. I coated it with gesso, a batch I made here at home. I pressed into the gesso some dry wall mesh while wet. I sprayed some Distress Stain and Dylusions Spray Ink onto it. I set it aside to dry.  I added a couple more layers and used some Distress Paint to deepen the colors.

I used Distress Ink around the hearts and wings. I embossed some of the die cuts, I love dots!

The keys, lock, mini heart and flowers are all made from paperclay. I sprayed some of them with Dylusions. Once dry I used some Rub N Buff to accent the edges.

Happy Hearts Month!

I hope you have a chance to play with us at Mixed Media Mojo. Have fun with the theme this month, Red and add Wings. All we ask is is you limit your submissions to three each month and  provide a link to Mixed Media Mojo in your blog post with your submission!

Mixed Media Mojo DT Inspiration~January Theme "New" Twist 15~Multi-Challenge Playtime

Happy Mid-Week!

Glad you found a moment to relax and enjoy for a moment today!

Well, last year went by so fast and this year is frightfully looking to be doing the same! We are a week in, WOW!

As promised back on the First of January, here is the full picture for my project for Mixed Media Mojo. Our New Years theme is New with a twist of 15. Have FUN and make of that what you will, we cannot wait to see your amazing projects! Link with us HERE.

This is my canvas, I hope you like it!

It is larger than I have worked before, it is still small at 11 inches by 14 inches. But bigger than I have done before. I wanted to create a sort of 2015 wish, to do board. Sometimes when I get stuck for an idea, I like simple reminders of things to play with or things I wanted to try. That was my goal for this project.

I made some hand stamped words using paper and a crackerbox.

Let me know what you think! I appreciate all of your comments and ideas! If you have any questions, just ask:)

Happy New Year!

Mixed Media Mojo DT Inspiration~December 2014~Ornament~Unruly PaperArts 12 Days of Christmas

Hello!

Welcome December! Wow!! So amazing how fast December has arrived!

Today brings lots of fun stuff! This is a very busy month for many people all over. I appreciate you making the time to visit and hope you have an extra moment to leave a word or two.

This month I am also playing along with Smeared and Smudged Creepmas Challenge, if you are looking for my Creepmas, you can follow this link HERE.

Also I am playing at Unruly PaperArts 12 Days of Christmas Link Party, yes I know this is crazy but it is so FUN!

This day brings the December 2014 challenge for Mixed Media Mojo. This month is fun and simple and we really hope you can play along with us. The theme is Winter/Winter Holidays and the twist is Ornaments! You can play along anytime this month, we would love to see what you are making!

Here is my Mixed Media Mojo project, hope you like it! Please click the photos to see a larger version :)

I started with a silver shiny star ornament I found at the Dollar Tree store. It was complete with the bell attached.

I inked it with alcohol ink. The alcohol ink ink sticks to metal and plastic which is awesome. It was still too shiny so I decided to clear emboss it. I used Ranger Embossing Ink Dabber to apply the embossing fluid. Then coated with Ranger Extra Fine Embossing Powder. As with all heat embossing, be careful it is HOT. The metal gets even hotter! The star I simply heated while it was flat on the tile counter. The blue bell I embossed with Ranger White powder. I held the bell with a pair of long tweezers. The metal stays hot much longer than paper so take care when embossing.

The embossing gave some nice texture, I am happy with it :)

That part done, set it aside and did the stamp. I used one of my favorite Holtz stamps, the Three Gentlemen. The Steampunk Wise Men. I stamped with Archival Ink, Potting Soil and clear embossed. I love embossing!

I used Antique Linen Distress Ink over the whole image. Then I used Vintage Photo around the edges and inwards. Then I misted the whole thing. I wiped a little off the hats and suits. I let it air dry. I like the color effect after it dried.

Once everything was dry and cool, I used the gears and jewelry jumprings I had in my stash to assemble my ornament.

Once my tree goes up, I will add this to it.

Thanks so much for reading! I hope you find inspiration along the Unruly PaperArts 12 Days of Christmas Hop and with us at Mixed Media Mojo!

Have a great day!
~kim
