Now on to the show!!

Please click each photo to see it a bit bigger.

I made a mixed media canvas to share today. The substrate is an upcycled dollar store MDF plaque.

A bit like Monique, who used clay to stamp into, I covered the base with DecoArt Modelling Paste. Once the surface was spongy, I was able to stamp into it with my Sin City Sugar Skull stamps.

Once totally dry, I started to layer up DecoArt Fluid Acrylics in many different colors. I edged the canvas with DecoArt Carbon Black and Prussian Blue. I also used Prussian Blue over some of the surface texture. The highlights are DecoArt Fluid Acrylic Gold.

The layering and dry brushing helps bring out all the fabulous texture!

The last step was to apply DecoArt Antiquing Cream to get the nice patina.

I stamped the Sugar Skull with Ranger Archival Ink onto Bristol Board. She is colored with various gel pens.

That's it from me!
I hope you enjoy this Hop!

Sending Smiles! New Mailart Rubber Stamp Set by Rick St Dennis MFA at SIN CITY STAMPS!

Hello Hello!

Long time no see! I have missed all of you and seeing all your amazing projects!

Please forgive me for letting my lil blog fall behind! I have a good excuse, really I do! Some of you may remember late last year I bought a small business called Sin City Stamps. We make and sell real red rubber stamps and ship them out ourselves, all made in the USA. This post contains links to my shop.

Well, this weekend we launched our very first brand new design, a stamp plate, called Sending Smiles,  hand drawn by Rick St Dennis MFA!  It's now available to order in my shop, Sin City Stamps. In fact, right now until March 20 you can purchase the plate for 14.99 +shipping, after that it goes up to 18.99. Rick has also offered a special incentive, everyone that buys Sending Smiles will be entered into a random drawing for a piece of mailart drawn, dated and signed by Rick himself! How cool is that??

Without further ado...here is the plate and a sample piece of mailart I colored using my Prismacolor pencils.

Warning...picture heavy! Click each one to see it a bit bigger! :)

This is a regular paper white envelope, 4 3/4 inches by 6 1/2 inches.

Love this bird!

This was so fun to color and I loved just using color!
Hope you like it!
Have a great day!!

Welcome 2017! New Challenge & Canvas for Dream in Darkness

HelloHello!

Welcome 2017!

Today we started a new challenge for the new month and new year on my Challenge Blog, Dream in Darkness! Yay! This month and next we have the awesome Seth Apter as our sponsor. Seth was very kind and provided some stuff for the team to play with and a prize to award the Challenge Winner as as well. If you are not familiar with his art, I encourage you to check out his blog, The Altered Page, like ASAP :)

I made a canvas for my project today. It is roughly 7"x 7". I found it at the dollar store. I used lots of my painty staples by DecoArt, Grumbacher and one of my favorite Tim Holtz stamps.

Rain makes me happy as do circles, so this is really from my heart to yours <3

Ready for lots more closer photos? Here we go! You can click each one to see a bit bigger!

I used DecoArt modeling paste to stencil Truths over the background texture. It is a wonderful heavy paste that gets the job done very well!

Once dry I painted Perfect Pearls over the paste to bring in shine.

Raindrops made of hot glue trails work so well next to the Drip Drop die set.  I used the die to cut the black paper cut behind Umbrella Man. I used the space vacated by the die cut as a stencil to repeat the pattern in paint on the background. I direct stamped the Word Salad stamp on the canvas and on the die cut too.

I heat embossed in white to add more pop and even more texture!

To make Reveal, I stamped through the stencil with the Word Salad stamp. Then I cut out the letters.
