Today is a brand new challenge at Left of Center Creative Challenges, we hope you can be inspired to play and our theme is Inspired by a Song. Our magnificent sponsor is Teri Sherman! I do hope you can visit her shop on Etsy, HERE
I was given the amazing image, Weeping Angel, to play with.
The gorgeous image was softly colored with watercolor pencils.
The images of clouds and grass are my own photos. I used DecoArts Photo Transfer medium to transfer the laser copies onto the cardboard substrate. Below I have some photos of the steps in case you have never tried a photo transfer. The DecoArt Decou-page Photo Medium is really awesome and easy to work with. I was fortunate to be given some to play with under the DecoArt Blogger Outreach program. I really do love it! Gonna make some....oooohhh it is a secret, show ya soon :)
I used the small Tim Holtz Alphabet stickers for the sentiment. It is from a song, lyrics by Paul Hewson.
Photo step by step:
Step 1 prepare substrate. I collaged some torn book pages using Decou-page Paper medium. I used color laser copies of my photos, and tore them out by hand for edges that would blend better.
Step 2 Cover surface with an even layer of Photo Transfer medium. Paint a layer on the photo, too. Apply it face down upon the substrate. Make sure if you have any words in the photo to reverse the image in your graphics program. Let dry.
Step 3 Mist with water. Let it soak in, you can start to the image appear now :)
Step 4 I used my finger and started to rub away the paper in a small corner. Once I saw it was dry and transferred, I rubbed away as much as I could.
Step 5 Let it dry again. This lets you see there is still more paper fiber to remove. I am never very aggressive with the first layer, I don't want to damage the image too much. On this layer I can see there is not that much pulp to remove so...
Step 6 Mist it again, it goes pretty clear, but you can still feel the paper on the surface. At this point I use an old terrycloth rag to wipe away the fibers. Checking with my finger till it feels nice and smooth.
Once all the paper is gone, it looks awesome and I love how you can see through the imagery.
Thanks for hanging in there! Let me know if you have any questions!
I hope you liked this angel and project. Looking forward to seeing you at Left of Center Creative Challenges!
