I have "Love You to Bits" with Zombie Dawn and Zombie Brian.  Everyone is nervous on a first date and zombies are no exception! Brian has done his best to secure brain buds for his sweetie. At the moment she is inexplicably distracted by a worm in her hair, poor dear she just wanted to look her creepy best!

The dear pair are colored using my Sharpie markers. 

The background I layered up using my DecoArt supplies: Modeling Paste and Misters on top of Bristol board. The modeling paste was applied thick and randomly to build up texture. I embedded a Tim Holtz diecut into the paste for the honeycomb pattern. 

Once dry I sprayed away with Misters in purple and primary cyan. Once I got some cool patterns I let it dry and sprayed some Shimmer White.

The "Love You to Bits" sentiment is included in the Zombie Brian set. I stamped it in Jet Black Archival. I mounted it on a Spellbinders diecut that is colored with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink and clear embossed. I loooovve these blues today :)  Nice early evening date for my Zombie Couple :)

I was fortunate and thrilled to receive the Zombie Couple, Dawn and Brian to play with. Today I want to share my small canvas made with Zombie Dawn!

And here is sweet Dawn :)

I colored Dawn with Sharpie markers.  The character set includes a zombie hand. I stamped four in archival ink and double embossed in black. On two of them, I flipped them over and embossed again to get a right and left hand :)

The paint strip she is standing on is stamped with Ranger Jet Black and it is from the Drag & Drip set. The background is colored with Abandoned Coral and Wild Honey Distress Ink. The background dots is the Retro Dots Background stamp.

First Post as Part of Visible Image Design Team!

Happy Sunday!

I hope you are having a bright and happy day so far!

Today is my first post featuring a project I made for the Visible Image Design Team! I am so excited and so nervous! The stamps are brilliant and I really really hope you like my project!

Visible Image

When  you have a moment hop over to check out the awesome shop, Visible Image stamps do not disappoint! They are fabulous. I really enjoyed making this canvas with the stamps I was sent, thank you Helen & Mark!


The canvas is about 6 1/2 inches wide and about 12 12 inches tall.

As soon as I saw this stamp, Flower INKognito, I knew I wanted to do a repeating pattern. I used Ranger White Super Fine embossing powder to keep as much detail as possible.

I stamped onto Bristol paper, and inked with Distress Inks in Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio for the bright colors.

The bottom layer is stamped using Ink Splats and clear embossed. The sentiment is one of my absolute favorites, (come back next week to see more of my new favorites)!! It is part of the Imagine, Dream Inspire set, as real must-have :)

Left of Center Creative Challenge #81~Theme. "For the Girls"

Today starts a fun new challenge at Left of Center Creative Challenges. Today is #81 and the theme is For the Girls. Our awesome sponsor is Simply Betty Stamps.

As always with our Left of Center Challenges, if the theme does not stir your muse you are most welcome to create anything Dark, Gothic, or whatever you would like to try, maybe a technique new to you, the goal is to play and have fun!

I have always loved the style of the artist known as Finnabair. Recently she has started an open Facebook group and launched some amazing 'get started in mixed media' project called Spread Your Wings on her blog. It features some wonderful how2s and simple prompts to get you started.

A few of my friends have made some projects in this way, and I decided to jump in. It was helpful because I was kinda stuck where to start. So I used Rebecca's start, put down paper strips, tape, paste, just start with texture.

Here we go, I apologize now, there are lots of photos.... :)

This is my canvas it is about 8 inches by 10 inches. The skull graphic is a free image from the Graphics Fairy.

My base is Bristol board. I love how sturdy it is and it is what I had on-hand. I covered it in DecoArt white gesso. I also used my finger to add some swirls and dents into the gesso. Once dry I added dry wall tapes and some string.

To add the color I used the DecoArt Media Misters in Primary Cyan, Shimmer White and Purple. They were misted with some water to make it run and blend.

The next layer I used the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Interference blue and purple

The Interference colors are awesome, depending on the angle of view it can have a color shift, which I absolutely love :) I am such a sucker for shine and shimmer! Viewed straight on they are harder to notice.

Next, making the charming part :)  Ahead of time I had made a stash of paper clay charms using Mod Podge Melt molds. The paper clay charms are fun and light weight. The disadvantage is they tend to disintegrate when wet. So I tested a couple spraying them with one coat of DecoArt Mister. there is a blue rose you can see there. It held up really well and did not melt :)  The black dots you see are hot glue dots I made as well.

This step you can cover the charms with gesso or acrylic paint. I used my DecoArt Mister Skimmer White. Just go lightly if using paperclay just in case, you still do not want to saturated them too much. I masked off the face to keep some color away till I was ready there.

Once the spraying was done and dry, I carefully added some Silver Rub n Buff to bring up the texture. The sentiment is Tim Holtz and edged with Distress Ink Peacock Feathers.

Summer Fun~ Mixed Media Mojo New Challenge~ Theme Summer Twist Monochrome

Happy Monday and Happy June 1st!

This sunny hot Monday morning (in my teeny part of the world) bring the start of a new challenge at Mixed Media Mojo. Our theme this month is Summer with the optional twist, Monochromatic! You have all month to link up your creation and have a fun play!

This is happy Summer moments. Moments that pass by quickly but stay with you for a lifetime. Be it playing on the beach, flying a kite or blowing bubbles :)

This canvas is 5 inches by 7 inches. I had a play with the supplies I was provided with by the DecoArts Blogger Outreach program. I love the paints, Misters, stencils and lots of mixed media wonderfulness! I always use these willingly, they are a joy to create with!

 I used some Andy Skinner stencils, Children and Serendipity, with modeling paste. The background colors I used the Misters in orange and white. I love these since they dry permanent.

While the Misters were wet I sprayed with some more water. Then added some of the white Mister. While it puddled and moved, I used a chopstick to swirl it. I love the way it dried! I adore the canvas texture. I added School Bus Yellow to the modeling paste for the kite.

The bottom, "Beach" I masked the top half and sprayed the letters with the Mister orange and Some Dylusions Yellow. The Dylusions is water reactive even when dry, so it tends to soak into anything as I learned. I used the texture sand paste for the breaking waves.
